OUR STORY

Chidoriya was founded in 1949 by Mr. Osamu Horikiri in Kyoto, Japan. In its early years, the brand focused on creating original beauty products and handcrafted handbags for Maiko (apprentice Geisha) and Geisha. These women were the epitome of fashion and beauty trends in Kyoto at the time, inspiring generations with their elegance and style.

Ms. Tomomi Horikiri, Osamu's second daughter, worked as a makeup artist for over 25 years in New York and Japan, collaborating with renowned musicians, models, and actresses. Throughout her career, she encountered many clients struggling with skin issues such as acne and eczema. This inspired her to conduct extensive research into the cosmetics and skincare products she was using at the time. Her findings revealed that many skin problems stemmed from allergic reactions to the synthetic and chemical ingredients commonly found in these products.

One day, she received a thoughtful gift from a friend—an herbal water crafted by her grandmother. This sparked an idea: “I can create skincare products that are 100% natural and organic, blending traditional Japanese ingredients with a modern twist.” Inspired by this vision, she deepened her research, guided by the philosophy that skincare ingredients should be as pure and wholesome as the foods we eat.

Inspired by the Skincare Rituals of Geisha and Maiko
Chidoriyaworld.com was founded by Tomomi in New York in 1999, driven by her passion to share Japan's exceptional beauty traditions. The first product she introduced was the Pure Camellia Oil-based Azuki Red Bean & Brown Sugar Soap. Since then, we have continued to craft products featuring traditional Japanese ingredients such as Yuzu, Green Tea, Azuki, Rice Bran, and Gettou (Alpinia Zerumbet).

Today, our collection includes over 100 items, ranging from Tsuge boxwood combs and brushes to cosmetics pouches and hair accessories. We proudly serve customers in cities like London, Singapore, Sydney, and Hong Kong. If you have any questions or if there is anything we can do to enhance your experience, please let us know!
